Jeremiah
(Jerry) Hanley is a Senior Consulting Associate with Global Resources
and is an experienced management consultant and trainer in the
areas of business development and sales, e-commerce, and the strategic
role and responsibilities of the CIO. Mr. Hanley brings over three
decades of management, sales and project experiences from his
work with a range of high-tech, telecommunications and educational
organizations to his client projects.
In addition to his responsibilities with Global Resources, Mr.
Hanley serves as Vice Provost for Information Technology and Chief
Information Officer at California Polytechnic State University
(Cal Poly). In this role, he is responsible for all information
technology and telecommunications services and assists the President
developing key corporate affiliations designed to promote the
development of academic partnerships with industry players such
as SUN, Cisco and Oracle. Jerry also teaches at the College of
Business and College of Engineering in technology policy, e-commerce,
international business development and the role of information
technology in business development and the specific roles and
functions of the CIO. Previous to joining Cal Poly, Jerry led
a business development team as a founding partner and Strategy
Officer of Edulink, a technology firm which develops curriculum-based
interactive content for K-12 educational and mass market applications.
Prior to his work in academia, Jerry worked for many years at
AT&T/Lucent Technologies. As Government Affairs Vice President
with Lucent Technologies, Jerry led the corporate-wide transition
team of advocates, lawyers and policy professionals in the design
of the structure, strategy, agenda and budget for the global Government
Affairs function for the newly constituted "systems and technology
company" which was spun off as Lucent Technologies as an IPO in
fall,1996. As International Public Affairs Vice President of AT&T
Network Systems, Jerry directied the development and implementation
of worldwide political, regulatory and industrial association
strategies designed to achieve AT&T-Network Systemsı Business
Unit objectives for globalization; he was selected as the AT&T
negotiator in the US/Japan bi-lateral government-to-government
negotiations on telecommunications procurement and worked on other
key actions such as the 1993-94 MFN renewal efforts for PRC, the
US re-entry into Vietnam and South Africa, and the ratification
of the NAFTA. As Regional Vice President, Marketing and Sales
- AT&T Pacific Region, he was responsible for all sales of network
equipment and services to Pacific Telesis and managed the annual
$20M budget and sales account of $400-$500M. As Executive Director,
Network Systems Sales - International Markets, he was responsible
for establishing and growing AT&Tıs direct network equipment sales
and selected joint venture operations in all global markets with
particular emphasis in the Far East, Latin America and the Mid-East.
Key activities included the development of market entry strategies
and their implementation in Mexico, Brazil, and PRC as well as
achieving the first successful AT&T equipment contract in Scandanavia
(Norway). Prior to these executive positions, Jerry served as
Director - Transmission Product Line Management in addition to
responsibilities in operations management/program management-electronic
switching, strategic marketing, information systems development,
materials management, business planning, operations research,
accounting, and human resources / management development.
Jerry holds a MA in English from New York Univeristy and a BA
in English from St. Bonaventure University and is a graduate of
the International Management Institute (IMI)ıs Geneva-based Senior
Policy Program and AT&Tıs Executive Development Program. He is
a published author (J.J. Hanley and R. Worthington Benchmarking
for Best Practice: A Performance Assessment Framework for the
Global Telecommunications Industry), serves on several business
and edcuational boards, and is the receipient of several recognition
awards for contributions to the development of MWBE. In addition
to enjoying his marriage and dynamic three sons, his hobbies include
scuba, woodworking and investing.
